Have you ever heard of the butterfly effect? Basically, the butterfly effect is a chaos theory. For example, in my birthplace Trinidad & Tobago (South America), a butterfly flaps its wings and months later unleashes a storm in Europe.
The 12th Retail Summit has been postponed by 2 years due to COVID-19, which scientists believe started with a kind of butterfly effect; only one human was accidentally infected by an animal in Wuhan, and we all know what happened after that, a major disruption to the whole world.
COVID-19 has unleashed many new butterfly effects, many of which we are already experiencing, such as inflation and disruptions throughout the entire supply chain. And unfortunately, still many more effects are expected over time.
I also believe that COVID-19 ended in our minds on February 24, when Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
Without a doubt, this act of aggression has a huge negative impact on many millions of people, and our hearts and minds are with the people of Ukraine. The aftermath of the invasion will also have a major impact on the entire industry, creating many unforeseen new butterfly effects, chain reactions and disruptions in the years to come.
We are all responsible for professionally shaping the future of our industry. Now it's up to us to apply the butterfly effect in a more positive sense.
Let's use the Retail Summit 2022 to release the powerful positive energy that is dormant within us. Let's use the contacts made at the conference, the content of our speakers and panelists to make the world and business a little better.
